O2 Turning Wood
Metka Zver, creator and designer of O2 Turning Wood.
When did you decide to work as a designer?
As an art historian, I have developed a sense of aesthetics based on my knowledge of Slovenian and world art and crafts. However, it was only after 20 years in marketing that I decided to follow my own creative path and work with my hands. Five years ago, I plucked up the courage and founded O2.
What inspires you?
Slovenia is a beautiful country, more than half of its area is covered with ancient forests. Oak, walnut, maple, yew... are among the trees that offer the most valuable types of wood. Each tree has its own story. The wormholes tell of past life, the grain testifies to growth, certain shades of color tell us about injuries, frost, lightning strikes... My desire is to show this story, not with words, but by revealing both its beauty and its flaws - acquired over the course of life. If you want to create something that conveys timeless truth through its beauty, you have to have an ear for the material and its language. You have to feel the beauty of the wood.
